Can you believe it has only been two years? We started this amazing journey with 200 amazing movers (mostly under 18), we now have over 2200 active monthly movers of all ages and backgrounds. From Free Dance Day to Zombie short films, new classes to guest teachers, BreakOut evolves day by day. It is now time for the next step - time to grow. 

WE are asking your help to grow BreakOut. Bigger studios, huge improvements and a continued push towards the future of movement! It is time and we are ready. Through BreakOut's success, private investors and this website, we plan on building one the most incredible movement facilities in the country! Imagine the possibilities.

Moda Provocateur Dancer Auditions!

Auditioning dancers for the 10th anniversary Moda Provocateur Fashion & Hair show. Rehearsals will be on Sundays 4:30-6:30PM. Show will be held on March 3rd at the Tucson Convention Center. This event benefits the Southern Arizona Aids Foundation.

The audition will be held at BreakOut Studios: 828 N. Stone (Stone and University)

Time: 7PM Please arrive early to sign in/ stretch and turn in a headshot.

The show is a high energy fashion/ hair event. Dancers will be performing numbers that may or may not include: Jazz, contemp and hip hop.

Wayne McGregor: On Misbehaving Beautifully

Wayne McGregor CBE is a British choreographer of contemporary modern dance. His work is highly distinctive in its vocabulary of movement, for its integration of dance with film and visual art, and for his active interest and incorporation of computer technology and biological science. He is the Artistic Director of Wayne McGregor Random Dance, Resident Company at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London; the Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, appointed 2006; and the government’s first Youth Dance Champion, appointed 2008. In 2004 McGregor was a Research Fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Cambridge.

McGregor is a frequent creator of new work for La Scala Theatre Ballet of Milan; Paris Opera Ballet; Nederlands Dans Theatre of La Hague; San Francisco Ballet; Stuttgart Ballet; New York City Ballet; The Australian Ballet of Melbourne; and English National Ballet of London. He served as Movement Director for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Cirque Inspiration: Alex Mizzen

Alex Mizzen’s background has left a wonderful imprint on the artist we find today. As a trained gymnast and a graduate from the National Theatre Ballet, Alex worked as a contemporary dancer, honing her skills and performance before embarking on the circus arena. Performing across many different countries the delight she now finds is in the collaboration of these two art forms & witnessing the magic that unfolds when they do.

The BreakOut Studios Team consists of 13 of my best friends, there is no other group of people that I would rather spend my time in the studio with. Despite the wide range of ages and levels, there is an incredible amount of support for one another that is present, and that is a rarity amongst competitive dance teams. To be on this team is to have constant reassurance that there is someone who will never see you as anything less than wonderful. Growth is inevitable when you're a member of this team, both as a dancer and a human being. Emotional freedom and expression are equally as stressed as technique by the fantastic instructors we are surrounded by. I absolutely love every moment I get to spend with the amazing people I call my team, watching everyone grow and flourish has been the driving force behind my years on the BreakOut Team. I could not possibly be more thankful for my exposure to the true meaning of dance, and that would not have been possible without BreakOut Studios.

The Breakout Studios team is unlike any other around. This was my first year and I am truly blessed to have found this studio and be apart of it.  BreakOut Studios is a great place to dance, but even better place to be on a dance team. The staff and fellow team members are nothing but supportive and fun to be around people. You could be the worst dancer or the best, and they will treat you the same. At BreakOut, everyone gets that moment of spotlight. Everyone gets fair treatment and everyone is equal. They care about helping you improve as not only a dancer, but person as well. Throught my year at BreakOut, on team, I can honestly say, that I made real friends and had real good times and laughs with everyone. I opened up and realized it is more than okay to be yourself. Team is an honor and is worth every mintue of classes and pratices. Being a part of team is a great experince that everyone should try out for and be a part of this loving dance family. Meet the Blog Staff: Clayton Ashcraft

Tell us a little about yourself and your background. 

      I was born and raised in San Diego, and I now live in Mesa, Arizona. I started dancing at age 5 and I was nurtured by my older brothers and sisters who grew up in the 80s/early 90s. I was really influenced by Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Bobby Brown, and thats really where I took off! At the end of high school and into college I took to street dance and hip hop culture. I will be forever grateful for the things I have learned through that culture. I now run a street dance blog and cover everything from the industry to the small town dancers.

What are you going to bring to the Life Moves Blog?

      I bring the voice of the people, from those on the small and big screen to those in small towns that don't get exposure! We all have a story to tell and we all tell it in our own way, we can all learn from each other by sharing in the art of dance! It's interesting to have interviewed people from all walks of life, different languages, and circumstances, and to see that dance always breaks through language barriers! 

What moves you?

     Feeling music and feeling freedom to express through joy, pain, laughter, sadness --those are the reasons I move! God has given me a talent which is just another voice for Him to work through me! I want to share people's joys and pains in a way that celebrates life and the progression thereof.

What are your top 3 websites right now and why?

     1. Stepxstepdance.com --haha have to throw it in! I've been running the website since last year and we have grown so much! We really try to hit as much as we can from big names to not so exposed dancers! Please check it out! 
     2. Dancersglobal.com --a great resource for whats going on in street dance, but also lots of advice for dancers with many topics! Gabriel Thomas who runs the site, has a really great instinct as to what dancers are searching for these days.
     3. Hip Hop International's Facebook Page -- that event last year, 10th anniversary of HHI in Las Vegas, was huge for my own site, but I also learned a lot about what moves people to dance and what situations they go through to make their dreams come true! 

What's your favorite sound?

      Laughter! I love laughing and I love the way people laugh.
